Well-designed trail. The lower sections to the actual loop, navigating through the mtb trail connectors to Screaming Cat are neither particularly interesting- although you do get to move through a few different unique biomes- nor intuitive, as would be expected of old bike trails. The clear instructions here are perfect however, and the markers (orange diamonds and occasional blue flashes) are more than adequate.
The actual new Skyline section however is clearly designed to maximize viewpoints and minimize erosion, with great vistas and good markers. Everything from Screaming Cat Lake to the resumption of the Lower 19mile Cr Trail is quite lovely. I found hiking in the described direction, toward Iceberg Lake, particularly rewarding as the views increase in drama over time, but did encounter most traffic from the other direction. Terrain is moderate in the new section, chains pre-emptively placed on ledges (not needed when dry), and reasonable cairn frequency will hopefully keep braiding to a minimum.
Alpine meadows are currently in bloom and the tarns and ponds are shallow with the expected mosquitos.
